Water woes ahead if colonies get nod

If the Urban Development Ministry's proposal to regularise unauthorised colonies in the Capital gets the green signal before next summer, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will have to meet a staggering increase in demand for water. And in an election year, the Delhi government will be on the brink of a crisis to supply this additional volume. Though water is being illegally tapped by residents in some areas, regularisation would mean ensuring supply of direct tap water and gradual replacement of borewells which are heavily relied upon in affluent unauthorised colonies like Sainik Farms.
