Watershed planning, management project launched in Balochistan

Watershed planning and management project has been sponsored by UNDP/WFP in Balochistan at an estimated cost of over Rs 185 million. According to official quarters here, the project has five important components. These include sand-dune stabilisation in Mastung and Nushki areas over 12,000 acres, watershed rehabilitation in districts of Quetta, Ziarat, Killa Saifullah, Pishin, Loralai and Killa Abdullah over 56,000 acres. Moreover, the project provides for construction of check dams, earth dams, contour trenches, planting and rehabilitation of hillside ditches as well as underground water channels.
