Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have made a significant change in their approach towards tackling their disputes. They have agreed to resolve their differences over sharing water through dialogue. Karnataka has announced that it would consider Andhra's request for release of 50 tmc ft of water from the Almatti reservoir if the north-east monsoon brought enough rainfall for the State. It has also agreed to set up a committee of officials from both States to work out the finer points regarding the availability of water in the Krishna basin, the quantum of water release and so on.
