The move to set up a national commission for children is to be welcomed and if the proposed bill is passed by Parliament in its current session, the panel is likely to come into being within six months.To be headed by a Supreme Court judge, it will have six members drawn from the fields of education, child health, child care, child welfare, child rights, juvenile justice and child labour, besides a psychologist/sociologist. Basically the commission would be entrusted with preparing programmes as also to make the state and community jointly responsible for child rights.......(Editorial)
