Itacoatiara, a northern Brazilian city is setting the pace as the home of the country's first native Amazonian rainforest in Brazil to receive certification from the Forest Stewardship Council. Though not the most active area for timber extraction in the Amazon region, Itacoatiara has become the most important export outlet because of its unique geographical situation at the confluence of six important rivers.
