Kokkre Bellur is like any other Indian village but for one significant difference. Located around 80 km from Bangalore, Kokkre Bellur's households take pride in their unique children - birds. This unique "bird village". where painted storks, grey pelicans and spotbilled pelicans are treated as sons and daughters by the villagers, so much so that strangers are not even allowed anywhere near them, is the subject of a documentary by award-winning Director, Mr. K.P. Sasi.Produced under the banner of Bangalore-based NGO Alternate Communication Forum (ALCOM), the 45-minute film in English shows that the "future will exist only if human beings learn to live with other species on this planet", he says.
