Should soft drinks be labelled as containing pesticides within tolerable limits? If yes, why only soft drinks? Why not butter, tea, biscuits, flour, milk, ice cream and the whole range of packaged foods? If all packaged foods admit, explicitly, that they contain traces of pesticides, it might build up public pressure on the government to institute regulation that will actually make a difference to the amount of pesticides Indians consume : at the level of pesticide use on the farm. The Jaipur High Court has directed the soft drink industry to declare, as part of the labeling, either that is produce contains no pesticides or that it contains pesticides within permissible limits.
