Members of the Rajasthan Assembly, cutting across party lines, expressed concern over large scale felling of trees on both sides of the national highway between Jaipur and Ajmer to make way for widening of road. Over 9,300 trees between Jaipur and Kishangarh had been cut till the first week of this month. Though the Minister of State for Forests and Environment, Bina Kak, tried to convince the House that the massive exercise would have a "negligible" impact, that too in an indirect manner, on the environment, the MLAs pulled up the State Government for failing to save the trees while converting the road into a four lane highway.
