While the Surpreme Court is still considering the applications of Madhya Pradesh government and the Narmada Bachao Andolan against the proposed height of Narmada's Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) from 81.3 to 110 meters, a demand for a new approach to the SSP has begun, albeit in hushes and whispers. With the BJP-led governments coming to power both in Gujarat and at the Center, hopes have gone up high for a taller dam. Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel gave a hint last week of a possible 'understanding' with the Cental leadership to thrash out the issue.
