Women seek share of forest produce

On the advice of the District Collector women in the village of Medak (Andhra Pradesh) had formed Vana Samrakshana Samitis to protect forests. The women planted saplings on a 330 acre in the nearby forests of Algole village. But according to the villagers, the forest department objected to their plucking of fruits and collection of fodder and firewood from the forest.
