The Forest Department of BTC has undertaken initiatives for conservation of forest resources in the BTC region by holding several awareness campaigns, seminars, workshops and motivation programmes. The department has engaged a good number of volunteers and NGOs to protect the forests wealth. The Primate Research Centre, NE India, in active collaboration with BTC forest department organized a six-day-long workshop recently at Inspection Bunglow Kachugaon to train up the forest protection volunteers regarding the conservation and safeguarding of flora and fauna of the area. The Primate Research Centre, Guwahati distributed mosquito nets, torchlight bag, combatic dresses and certificates to the Bodoland Forest Protection Volunteers (BFPV) who participated in the training programme recently at Kachungaon IB. The Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyang, incharge of the Forest and Tourism, BTC formally distributed the materials to forest protection volunteers. He called upon the 72 BFPV who were trained on field techniques to dedicate themselves in protection and conservation of forest resources. He also appealed all to join hands in dealing with forest mafias and illegal encroachers. The programme was also attended by Director of Forest, BTC G C Basumatary, DFO R N Boro and other officials.
