World Bank plans $200 mln China forestry project

The World Bank and other aid organisations have proposed investing $200 million in a Chinese forestry development project, the official Xinhua news agency reported yesterday. The project aimed to improve forest protection andmanagement and enhance the sustainable management of natural resources, it quoted an officialfrom the World Bank's China office as saying. It said the project was expected to begin next year. Xinhua said the World Bank planned to invest $150 million in the project, with another $30 million coming from a Global Environmental Facility award. It did not say who was providing the other $70 million.
