The Water Resources department has finally managed to plug saline water from gushing to the low lying fields of Ambelim and Velim late Monday night.
Taking note of the gravity of the situation, workers deployed by the Water Resources department worked till late last night and built a wall like structure to prevent saline river water from entering inside.
Ambelim Sarpanch Cruz Silva informed that the authorities have plugged the entry of saline water after late night work.
He said the Water Resources department should expedite work on the sluice gate before major damage is caused to the fields.
Large tracts of low-lying fields at Pedda and Sokobandh in Ambelim were inundated by the saline water after the temporary structure erected by the water resources department at the sluice gate point gave in during the high tide line on Monday.
