The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has taken a serious view of the wanton destruction of bamboo forests for two of Asia's larger paper mills, namely the Hindustan Paper Mill at Jagiroad in Morigaon district, and the Panchagram Paper Mill in Hailakandi district. Thi has posed a grave threat to the lives of various species of birds, including the endangered ones found in Assam.
