WWF holds conservation carnival Our Staff Reporter Karachi - World Wild Fund (WWF)-Pakistan's Nature Carnival in collaboration with Global Conservation Organisation (GCO) organised an annual event on Sunday to create awareness among school children by practically involving them in fun-and-learn activities. A large number of School children along with their parents and teachers thronged to the PAF Museum in Karachi to participate in the event. WWF-Pakistan frequently organises special events and functions to educate the general public about the significance of nature conservation and raise funds for the promotion of its activities. In this connection, the success of a series of Nature Carnivals, first organised in 2000 made these events an integral part of the organisation's annual activities. ICI Pakistan Limited sponsored the program for the sixth year running. Involving corporate concerns, educational institutions and students, the Carnival offered an excellent opportunity for creating awareness on critical environmental issues. The event offered a healthy mix of activities providing both education and entertainment. An estimated 8,000 to 10,000 individuals attended the carnival. The full-day function commenced at 9 am in the morning and continued till 6 PM in the evening. The Nature Carnival proved to be an excellent opportunity for students, teachers and professionals to participate in an interesting set of activities designed to help them green their behaviour. It was an event, which was a positive mix of education, entertainment and promotion. At the event, 39 private and government sector schools of the city set up 59 stalls containing 3D models on 5 different environmental themes. Pierre Seillan, the French Consul General in Karachi was the Chief Guest on the occasion who distributed prizes shields the winning schools. Mir Hussain Ali, Secretary Environment and Alternate Energy, Government of Sindh, Mahboob Alam Ansari, the Secretary Forest and Wildlife Department, Government of Sindh, and the Director Indus for All Program, WWF-Pakistan Dr Ghulam Akbar also distributed prizes among the students and teachers of the participating schools.
