A judicious mix of private management and equitable distribution of water to the poor and needy people has to be worked out in India, a UNICEF expert from New York has suggested. Mr. Gourisankar Ghosh, who was associated with India's drinking water mission and presently with Unicef, said a dual pricing mechanism which charges higher for industry and commercial users of water and lower price for poor people and mass domestic consumers has to be worked out. Currently, the rich and the poor pay the same costs.
