Old timers recall how the top of the gigantic Hanuman statue near Kashmere Gate was the only thing visible above the waters. Even as Bihar grapples with a raging Kosi, environmentalists here warn that increasing constructions in the Yamuna flood plain and the river's history of decadal floods could spell doom for the city unless Delhi learns important lessons from the Kosi disaster.
