Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said on Friday that his Government was committed to create a congenial atmosphere for investors to start their ventures in Karnataka without being under anybody's obligation. Addressing a gathering at Sogane, about 8 km from here, after laying the foundation stone for an airport, he said that prospective investors would have ample opportunities in the State as the Government was ready to offer facilities for it. Mr. Yeddyurappa said Karnataka occupied the seventh place as far as infrastructure development is concerned. "My resolve is that it should take the first or the second place and I will leave no stone unturned to achieve it,' he said and added that the Government had given priority for development of industry, agriculture and irrigation to achieve sustained growth. The Chief Minister hoped that the development of the airport would go a long way in ushering in a new era of development of Shimoga district. He said he would ensure that development of airports proposed at Gulbarga, Hassan, Bidar and Bijapur would be taken up simultaneously. Mr. Yeddyurappa said the government would sanction Rs.17 crore for laying a four-lane express highway between the airport and Shimoga city. Observing that tourism would get a new impetus in the district after the airport becomes operational, he said that Rs. 13 crore had been sanctioned for the development of Kodachadri, a hill resort, into a major tourist spot.
