The environmental clearance for the 6mtpa integrated steel plant at Kerjang in Orissa by JSPL project was accorded on February 22nd, 2007.  Stage-1 forest clearance was given on March 20th, 2010 and final forest clearanc eof 168.232 hectares was given on October 28th, 2010.  In response to a complaint dated November 6th, 2010 recieved from the Wildlife Society of India, Orissa, MoE&F issued a show-cause notice of JSPL on December 14th, 2010 under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986 in view of the reported non-compliance of conditions stipulated in the environemntal clearance.
