BHUBANESWAR: Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management Surjya Narayan Patro today informed the Assembly that the Ministry of Earth Science had set up 37 automatic weather stations in the State. To a question from Rajendra Kumar Das (BJD), the Minister said there is a proposal to set up such weather stations in 45 more places in the second phase.
The rains over the past few days might have brought the city to a halt, but they have given Delhi a much-needed break from air pollution.
BHUBANESWAR: More sun, less rain. The monsoon seems to have left Orissa high and dry. And with no sign of any weather system forming over the next week or so, worse might be in store. At present, farmers cannot go ahead with the weeding process as the farmlands have dried up. Transplantation is to follow but only if there is adequate rain which appears unlikely.
The office of the Relief Commissioner has set up flood control rooms in all 50 districts of the state to meet any eventuality in case of excess rains during the monsoon. If necessary, control rooms will also be opened at the tehsil-level too.
Global patterns of biodiversity and comparisons between tropical and temperate ecosystems have pervaded ecology from its inception. However, the urgency in understanding these global patterns has been accentuated by the threat of rapid climate change.
Jamshedpur, July 11: A weak monsoon has prompted Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), Kanke, to draw up a contingency crop plan.
LUCKNOW: Even as widespread rains ended the dry spell over UP on Saturday, monsoon continued to elude Lucknow. While many places in eastern parts recorded rains, skies remain overcast in the city, but barring a brief shower in the wee hours, the clouds did not precipitate into rains.
ROURKELA: After the initial signs of robust monsoon, rain has begun to play truant raising fear of another bad kharif season on the trot in the rainfed tribal district of Sundargarh. Fear is writ large on the faces of marginal tribal farmers living from hand to mouth, as another bad crop season can spell doom for them.
Amritsar: At a time when the rest of Punjab is fighting floods, the Majha region is facing a prolonged dry spell, causing concerns about the health of the paddy crop. Though the electricity supply has been comparatively satisfactory, farmers are still depending on diesel engines to pump out underground water for irrigation in the absence of rain.
Bhopal: Despite the forecast of good monsoon in Madhya Pradesh, the state was yet to experience adequate rainfall, met department sources said.
