  • Saptari flood victims face scarcity

    Saptakoshi flood displaced, taking shelter by the side of Koshi River in Saptari, have complained that they are compelled to live under scarcity as the relief program has been largely focused on the displaced people of Sunsari. Around 30,000 people from flood hit VDCs, who fled to Saptari side, have been cut off from Sunsari as the flood water has deluged 4 km road section along the East-West Highway. Due to lack of food and clean water many people, especially children and women, have started to fall sick.

  • Tentative damage pegged at Rs 70 crore in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur districts

    Jalandhar: The actual damage of crop and property may run into hundreds of crores, but the government has estimated that a tentative Rs 70 crore relief fund is required for the flood-affected families in Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur districts. Meanwhile, a girdawari is still on in both the districts. Kapurthala district also reported heavy losses in the damage assessment report prepared by the district administration.

  • Forty-thousand displaced by Saptakosi floods: Home Ministry

    The Home Ministry has informed that around 40,000 people have been displaced due to floods in Saptakosi river. "Till now, 40,378 people of 7102 families have been displaced,' the Ministry has informed. The Ministry has informed that 5500 hectares of land, 12 km of black-topped road and 13 km of seasonal road have been destroyed by the flood. It has said that people of Haripir, Sripur Jabdi, Laukahi and Western Kusaha VDCs of Sunsari district have been fully displaced while those of Narsingh, Basantapur and Ghuski VDCs of the same district have been badly affected by the inundation.

  • Flood victims' rehab in a week

    As thousands of displaced people suffer numerous problems related to food and shelter, the local administration on Sunday said it is going to rehabilitate them within a week. Following the government's directives, District Administration Office (DAO) Sunsari is preparing to set up temporary shelters either in Narsingha or Bhokraha VDCs. According to Local Development Officer (LDO), Guru Prasad Subedi, tens of thousands of displaced people will be rehabilitated temporarily in shanties and makeshift huts within a week.
