Mumbai: Chief minister Ashok Chavan has asked the railways to look for other sources of water to meet their daily requirements. The Central and Western Railway require about 38.52 lakh litres of water of which the former consumes nearly 23.40 lakh litres to wash local train coaches.
AGARTALA, Dec 21: In order to ensure better passenger amenities, Ministry of Railways has announced to make available free quality drinking water round-the-clock at railway stations in the northeastern states through Reverse Osmosis (RO) process. Railway officials here said a similar scheme was introduced in other parts of the country recently and it had yielded a better result.
India may have recently vowed to slash carbon emissions by 20-25 per cent but Mumbai's new electrical suburban trains are already speeding ahead of this target. These local trains curb carbon emissions by 40 per cent and save 30 per cent more electricity than a normal train. The saving is made through the regenerative braking system, which reuses electricity for other trains on the same line.
