In a city where surveillance cameras are being sparingly used, the 17 cameras installed along the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in South Delhi by the Delhi Multi-modal Integrated Transport System (DIMTS), primarily for traffic monitoring purposes, have regularly come to the rescue of policemen scouring for evidence in crimes where suspects have strayed on to these roads. The cameras presently installed are basic-purpose pan-and-zoom ones that watch the traffic condition on the BRT corridor to suitably trigger the intelligent signalling system. They also help address traffic problems like spotting accidents and broke-down vehicles blocking traffic.

Supreme Court upset over rising car mishaps
The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed its anguish over the increasing number of car accidents in the city and blamed the Delhi Police for this in not enforcing the order prohibiting use of black films of any Visible Light Transmittance (VLT) percentage or any other material upon the safety glasses, windscreens (front and rear) and side glasses of all vehicles. A Bench of Justices A. K. Patnaik and Swatanter Kumar reserved order on applications seeking clarification on certain aspects of the order passed on April 27 when the ban was imposed by the Court.

Jaipur Development Authority plans to develop footpaths on major Jaipur roads
JAIPUR: In a bid to facilitate hassle-free movement for pedestrians, the Jaipur Development Authority is planning to develop footpaths on major city roads. In this regard, the Jaipur Development Authority's engineering wing has been directed to prepare a status report on city roads on the basis of which the design for the footpaths will be drafted. JDA chief engineer Lalit Sharma said, "The footpaths will be designed according to the road width and the vehicular movement. The plan for footpath on every city road will be different."
