GUWAHATI: Suspected poachers shot dead a male one-horned rhino in Pobitara Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam today. Official sources said the male rhino was shot at from .303 pistol by a gang of poachers at around 2.30 am. The gang escaped with the prized horn of the endangered species. This is the first instance of poaching in the Park, located about 52 km from Guwahati, in Morigaon district.
Siliguri, June 12: Apalchand forest is set to be declared the third habitat for one-horned rhinoceros in the state after Jaldapara and Gorumara. The forest, 35km from here, has been home to a pair of rhinos for about two years.
