GUWAHATI, Jan 18
A ranger at Orang National Park, Salim Ahmed, was injured when he was attacked by a rhino at Islampur, about 7km from the park, at 2pm today. The rhino had strayed out of the park two days back and crossed the Brahmaputra to areas in Nagaon and Morigaon districts
Jorhat, Dec 3: Songita Munda (7), daughter of Shiva Munda, was injured when a rhino attacked her at Bogoriguri in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) this morning while she was playing near her house. The rhino had strayed away from KNP and had entered the residential area near Karbi Hills. The injured girl has been admitted to a private nursing home in Jorhat.
Rhino experts are drafting a field handbook based on Assam conditions to help carry out translocation more efficiently and smoothly as experts start converging for the second phase of shifting of the animals from Pobitora wildlife sanctuary to Manas. The translocation will be done over the next three days from tomorrow.
