A firing incident near the entrance of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve on Wednesday has once more brought this protected area under sharp focus. This tiger reserve in eastern Madhya Pradesh came under the scanner after a tigress was hit by a rashly driven vehicle and killed inside the core area on May 19.
Residents of Honnakudige, Kusgal and Anthoni have alleged that huge trenches have been dug in Bhadra reserve forest area at Hebbe, Lakkavalli and NR Pura to trap the elephants because they are found in large numbers in the said regions.
BHUBANESWAR: A sanctuary for the wildlife till not so long ago, Similipal Tiger Reserve and its adjoining forests are slowly turning into a den for the hunters, both organised and traditional. At least six elephants have been reported poached in and around the famous tiger habitat in the last few weeks.

WSO alleged that there were reports of 12 elephants being killed in Similipal and attempts were made to destroy poaching evidences.

Mumbai Three Mahad residents - two farmers and an autorickshaw driver - were arrested on Friday for allegedly possessing two cheetah skins. The accused had reportedly come to the city to sell the skins but were nabbed by the Pant Nagar Police, after they were tipped-off about them.
During peak season, ecoresorts are overflowing with tourists. Such numbers are unmanageable and place stress on the animal. Some parks may become less a national park and more a drive-through zoo. It seems that the wildlife population is increasing and poaching is down with the eco-tourism boom.
