Hyderabad, April 13: The Andhra Pradesh forest department is probing the Mumbai link of the tiger poaching that occurred at Narsampet reserve forest area in Warangal district. It is suspected that one of the accused in the case, Raheem, was in contact with people in Mumbai allegedly to sell off the tiger skin and claws.

April 7: Three more persons were arrested by sleuths of the forest department on Tuesday for killing a tiger in Narsampet reserve forest area in Khammam district. Three others had been arrested earlier. The trio arrested on Tuesday confessed that they had skinned the tiger after trapping and killing it. The aim was to make a neat profit by selling the skin and claws.
Forest department officials today deliberated on ways to curb ivory smuggling in Singhbhum. The meeting, attended by principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) A.K. Singh at the forest guesthouse in Mango, primarily discussed elephant poaching in the Singhbhum Elephant Project area and on how to curb the menace.
DINDIGUL: Forest officials seized tiger and leopard skin, valued at Rs.8 lakh, during a raid in the Kannivadi forest range near here on Monday. Three persons have been arrested and cases filed under Section 49 (A) of the Wildlife Preservation Act 1972.
April 6: Land sharks have encroached into the Ramakrishnapuram lake near Neredmet from all the sides. This lake is the habitat of a variety of birds and tortoises. Several buildings have come up near the lake situated beside the flyover. Moreover, tortoises from the lake are caught in the lake and sold by the poachers.
Election time sees less wildlife crime in the state. Although there are no figures to establish this fact, Forest officials confirm that the nefarious elements do not focus on forest during election period.
Jamshedpur, March 31: Elephant poachers in Saranda have found a friend in Maoists. This startling fact came to light during a probe conducted by the forest department in West Singhbhum. The report reveals that poachers killed at least four tuskers between March 2008 and February 2009 by administering poison.
Despite serious attempts at putting an end to elephant poaching, the disappearance of the species in various parts of the world continues to be reported. However, evolution has come to the rescue of this magnificent animal, with a reduction in its physical size and the length of its tusks, giving it added camouflage advantage and lower physical attractiveness.
