  • 5 tourism projects to be re-advertised

    The government will re-advertise five mega projects, including the setting up of a golf course and a health resort, for which bids have been already pending with the government. The aim is to get better response than earlier. With the government deciding to re-advertise these projects aimed at promoting private investment, there is likely to be further delay in the start of work on these projects. The bids that have been pending with the government for the past over one year include big names like the Taj group, Holiday Inn, Ambuja, Skill Infrastructure and the Chokhi Dhani group.

    The Tamil Nadu government has come out with a new initiative for developing infrastructure facilities in and round rural tourist centres through an Infrastructure Gap Filling Fund.   • Land sanctioned for underwater world aquarium at Muttukadu

    The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday issued an order making available 15 acres for setting up an underwater world aquarium at Karikattukuppam village in Muttukadu on East Coast Road. The project is coming up under the public private partnership model. The government has also given its consent to utilise the services of the Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructural Financial Services (TNUIFSL). Of the 39.04 acres available with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), 15 acres has been set aside for the tourist attraction on a 30-year lease period.

  • Special tourism initiatives planned

    Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao told the Assembly on Tuesday special tourism initiatives for Chennai-Mahabalipuram-Puducherry would start soon after holding talks with the Tamil Nadu Tourism department. Replying to the debate on demands, he said the department would take steps to obtain permission to start boat rides along the beach at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.

  • Russia keen on investing in State

    In what could open new doors towards development, Russia is keen to invest in areas like oil and gas, tourism, power and infrastructure development in Assam. Russian ambassador to India, Vyacheslav Trubnikov, disclosed this to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at a meeting attended by senior officials of the Government of Russian Federation and the Assam Government at Gogoi's official residence here today, a press release stated.   • Rs 500 cr lined up to develop infra for 20 tourist spots

    To give a much needed fillip to the domestic tourism business, the Centre is planning to spend about Rs 500 crore for developing infrastructure in 20 tourist spots in the country. "We have already identified the locations where we will provide world class infrastructure facilities to boost tourism,' said minister for tourism and culture, Ambika Soni.
