KASARGOD: The Plantation Corporation Samrakshana Samithi has demanded withdrawal of the study report of the community medicine of the Kozhikode Medical College on the ‘Epidemiological Studies Related to Health in Endosulfan-affected Areas of Kasargod district’. In a letter to the principal of the Kozhikode Medical College, the PCK Samrakshana Samithi state secretary M Gangadharan Nair said the report of the medical college, which was later submitted to the Supreme Court, led to the government demanding huge funds from the PCK.
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government’s clean chit to cement plants which are breaching the forest conservation act has been out rightly questioned by the Maitshaphrang Movement, an NGO which used the RTI findings to reveal the alleged exploitation of forest by these cement giants in the Khliehriat sub-division of Jaintia Hills district. Deputy Chief Minister, In-Charge, Mining and Geology Bindo M Lanong, two days ago, said, “The officials have attested that the areas under limestone mining are not under agriculture or dense forest areas.”

It is an irrefutable fact that unscientific “rat hole’ mining has contaminated the water sources and bodies within the periphery of the rich coal deposited sites of Khliehriat sub division. N.K. Premachandran, former Water Resources Minister, said here on Monday that Tamil Nadu had agreed in principle to the proposal for a new dam at Mullaperiyar way back as 1979. At the suggestion of the Central Water Commission, both Tamil Nadu and Kerala had agreed for a new dam and a joint proposal had been submitted to the commission. However, the CWC had not pursued this. When asked, through a Right to Information query, the CWC had said that the proposal was not technically feasible.
