Funding for disaster risk management
Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights, Mahinda Samarasinhe to implement the project "Operationalizing the road map for disaster risk management" under UNDP assistance of USD 2,100,000 and to authorize the secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management to sign programme agreement with UNDP.

2.5 lakh buildings vulnerable to quake in 3 cities
Around 250,000 buildings in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet cities have been bracketed by a recent survey as being vulnerable to earthquake. "The survey results were absolutely shocking," says ASM Maqsud Kamal, national adviser to Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme for tsunami, cyclone and earthquake.

Forget Mumbai

The report, copyrighted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and developed with the United Nations Development Programme, India, indicates that the solution to decongesting Mumbai is to make it less attractive to migrants.

Ham radios installed in 10 districts
KENDRAPARA: The Orissa State Disaster Mitigation Authority (OSDMA) installed 21 ham (amateur) radios in ten districts, including six coastal ones, recently. Last year, UNDP provided the ham radios to OSDMA for installation. Due to non-availability of trained ham radio operators the installation of radios was delayed, said Pravat Ranjan Mohapatra, deputy general manager and coordinator of OSDMA.
