  • Fresh violence in Indore, curfew in entire city

    Fresh communal violence erupted here Friday leading to imposition of curfew in entire Indore city, a day after four persons were killed in clashes during the BJP-VHP sponsored bandh against revocation of land to Amarnath shrine board. The fresh incidents of violence occurred in various areas - Jinsi, Juna Risala, Champa Bagh, Bombay Bazar and Hathipala where rioters clashed with the police and the Rapid Action Force personnel by pelting stones on them.

At a star-studded event that included actors Harrison Ford, Bo Derek, and Robert Duvall, the World Bank presented a five-point action plan to engage governments, non-governmental organizations, scientists and conservationists in strategies to save the tiger.

  • Roads condition deteriorate: Quality factor missing

    Hardly has the monsoon commenced and the roads have started to tear apart. As per recent information, the newly constructed road from Bhopal to Raisen has started deteriorating and the gravel and other materials used in its construction has come on the side of the road. The same fate is of Chhindwara-Seoni road. In the State capital and nearby areas also, the recent rains have resulted in damage to roads. All this proves that the quality aspect was not taken care of during construction of the roads.

    Bhitarkanika too small for reptiles and people - report of Ashutosh Mishra The Oriya name for the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) is baula kumbhira, which literally means crazy crocodile. The moniker certainly rings true for people living in about 50 villages around Bhitarkanika National Park in Orissa's Kendrapara district. Home to the largest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the country, the reserve is rife with human-crocodile conflict.

  • Vidisha farmers go for Basmati rice now

    Two representatives of the World Bank met the farmers at village Sunpura in Vidisha district yesterday and held discussions with them on issues pertaining to agriculture. They enquired as to what crops they take in which season, which variety of seeds they use, quantum of production, marketing of their produce and application of fertilisers and pesticides. The team was surprised to learn that a pioneer in wheat production Vidisha district has now taken to Basmati rice production and the farmers are getting attracted to orchards.

  • 3 pharma units ayed in state

    The state government has ayed proposals for setting up three pharmaceutical units with an investment of Rs 275 crore in special economic zones at Indore and Gwalior. The Glenmark group would establish two units - Rs 175 cr - while Teva API India group would set up one over 29 hectares at Gwalior. The latter unit's products would be exported only and the group has three such pharma units in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, sources said today.

  • Power general declines in state: Cong

    In the last four years, power generation from thermal power units of the State have fallen down. In the earlier regime of Congress, 14560 million unit of electricity was generated from thermal units, but during the last four year rule of Bharatiya Janata Party government, various thermal units of the State could manage to generate 14460 million units, alleged KK Mishra, Pradesh Congress committee spokesperson in a press statement issued here Wednesday.

  • Tree felling procedure simplified

    The state government has simplified the procedure of granting permission for cutting trees to get timber wood in villages adjoining government forests. Now tehsildars have been authorised to give permission to the villagers. The maximum limit of cutting of up to two cubic meters in a year has also been abolished.

There are so many species of snakes are already living here. But now the department has procured other aqua-species of snakes like cobra, daihal, sunfreela etc. These species will become a special attraction for tourists, as they are of different colours and shades. Besides this the department tried to allure tourists by adding different animals to Van Vihar. Here the area of water will be proliferated.
