Faces Hurdles In Environment Clearance In Andhra Pradesh There seems to be no end to the trouble of the state PSU, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC). Under fire from activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal for an alleged scam of Rs 20,000 crores for its offshore gas exploration in KG Basin, off Andhra coast, the premier bluechip company is now facing the ire of the Andhra Pradesh government for failing to take forest and wildlife clearance. It has asked GSPC executives to “stop work” of laying down a crucial submarine pipeline to take gas from KG Basin to its onshore gas terminal (OGT) via an area which is 10 km of the Corianga sanctuary without necessary clearances. It asks them to explain “why action shouldn’t be taken” for violating forest and wildlife laws.

Rajkot: Crores of gallons of precious water, which could have irrigated at least 10,000 acres of farmland and provided drinking water to lakhs of households for months, is simply flowing into the arid saltpans of Little Rann of Kutch. Locals say the water has been overflowing from the sub canals of the Zinzuwada branch canal for the past 45 days, but authorities have turned a blind eye to the waste. The water from the sub-canals is given to farmers but there is no system of conserving the excess, which is allowed to drain out into the Little Rann.

AHMEDABAD: Organized retail provides some hope to see farmers get their share of benefits but the post-harvest issues in horticulture commodities could only solve with joint participation from private and public sector, says a study by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A). The working paper 'Organized Retailing of Horticultural Commodities' by Piyush Kumar Sinha, professor at IIM-A and Sujo Thomas, academic associate at IIM-A discusses the changes in horticulture retail, which is mostly referred as the selling of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Surat: A high density corridor will be developed in the diamond city to boost growth and solve transportation problems in its new areas. It would be 29 km long and would come up along the 66 km Outer Ring Road where there is maximum residential and commercial development. The project is slated to begin immediately after the assembly elections. The total cost of the Outer Ring Road project is estimated at Rs 5,500 crore and it will earn a revenue of Rs 11,500 crore through sale of FSI, etc. for Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA) and Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC).

Last month, consolidated data showed that western and posh new western parts of the city accounted for a large chunk of vector-borne diseases. The western and new western parts of the city reported 312 malaria cases, while the northern part of the city recorded the least — 57 cases. This, according to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) was because of greater incidence of relapses.
AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat high court has quashed the acquisition process for 155 land parcels which were acquired by the state government for the development of the Poshitra Port area. The plan for the development of this project has been shelved by Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) and the state because the project has not secured due environment clearance. After GMB planned the project in 1997, the state government issued a notification in 1999 for the acquisition of land in the vicinity of the proposed port for development. The award for the acquisition was decided in 2001, but it was declared after much delay, in 2008.
