What does the recent Indian consumption behaviour tell?
The paper presents alternative estimates of poverty lines and head count ratios for India and its states and union territories, not only with respect to the fixed all-India calorie norm, but also by considering the state-specific benchmarks. These alternative estimates are found to be much higher than the official estimates.
