WMO statement on the status of the global climate in 2010

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released its annual "Statement on the Status of the Global Climate," highlighting that global surface temperatures reached record values and that 2010 represented the closure of the warmest decade on record.
The Statement describes global temperature in 2010, major large-scale influences on the global climate and temperatures across regions. It also documents heatwaves in Eurasia during the Northern-hemisphere summer, and record high globally-averaged land precipitation. The publication discusses floods, particularly in Pakistan, and drought in the Amazon. It notes that global tropical cyclone activity was the lowest on record since 1976, and that 2010 was the third lowest Arctic summer sea-ice minimum. The Statement includes descriptions of the use of reanalysis data for monitoring the state of climate.
