Garbage recycling
THE Japanese government has brought out a new set of rules to reduce wastes. In the last session of the Diet, it was decided that companies have to bear more responsibility towards waste disposal. The legislation asked the companies to minimise production of waste, promote recycling and prevent illegal dumping.
According to the new laws, manufacturers have to recycle at least a part of their old products and the contractors dealing in waste disposal would be responsible for maintaining the environment. One feature of the law is that companies will continue to be responsible for their wastes even after they have passed on the work to disposal contractors.
Some of the suggested methods of waste disposal are turning food wastes to compost or animal feed. Construction material can be sorted out for reuse. To increase awareness about the cost of garbage disposal, fees can be charged according to the amount of wastes.
Companies have decided to re-evaluate their manufacturing policies and are trying to develop long-lasting products which would conserve resources. Those in the field of construction, are trying to find better methods and materials.
