Light work

Chrysler Corporation, an auto-maker in the us, is developing a five-seater car that is mostly made of plastic. The two-cylinder vehicle would travel nearly 20 km per litre of petrol, and cost half the price of a conventional car. It would require one-third labour and investment cost needed for conventional small cars. The vehicle would be more crash-resistant than a steel body car. The company is expected to introduce the fist prototype in market by end of 1997. The car weighs about 540 kg as against 1,093 kg of a steel body car.
