rti amendment: The Supreme Court (SC) has recently recommended amendments to the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Adding to the existing list of 10 categories of information exempted from disclosure by section 8 of the RTI Act, SC suggested a clause that provides a similar cover of secrecy to any information which, in the opinion of the chief justice of India (CJI) or his nominee, may "adversely affect or interferes or tends to interfere' with the independence of judiciary. SC also said the administrative order in which the CJI or his nominee expresses such an opinion should be beyond challenge.

The court has also proposed that the appellate body, the Central Information Commission, should not remain information act's independent regulator.
