Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding use of BS-II and III compliant public transport vehicles, Bangalore, Karnataka, 26/09/2018
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Vinay Shivanand Nayak Vs. State of Karnataka & Others dated 26/09/2018. The principal question requiring determination in this case is as to whether the State of Karnataka should be permitted to continue with the use of BS-II and III compliant public transport vehicles and also the incidental question as to whether permission should be grant for purchase of 1000 number of BS-IV compliant public transport vehicles as prayed for on behalf of the State Transport Corporation.
GAIL India Limited, has submitted that they have capacity to supply the entire requirement of Bangalore city and already have in place CNG stations in atleast three depot at Bangalore city which has the capacity to take care of 960 buses. NGT dircts State Transport Corporation to file an affidavit on the action taken for converting to environmental friendly fuel to replace the fossil fuel. While doing so, the State Transport Corporation shall also provide specific timeline of the conversion and the number of eco-friendly buses that they propose to purchase.
