Consolidated status report on restoration of water bodies in compliance to the National Green Tribunal order of June 1, 2020 in the matter of Lt. Col. Sarvdaman Singh Oberoi Vs Union of India & Others.

The NGT vide order May 10, 2019 had directed all the states and union territories (UTs) to review the existing framework of restoration of all the water bodies by preparing an appropriate action plan and furnish with the CPCB.

The report contains information received from the states and UTs regarding action plans for restoration of water bodies.

Chhattisgarh in its report said that the Department of Panchayat and Rural Development, during the year 2019-2020, around 68,803 ponds were selected for restoration. Out of which, 33,106 ponds had been restored under the MGNREGA Scheme, whereas 2,38,004 ponds had been restored during the financial year 2018-2019. All the identified water bodies have been geo-tagged, allocated unique identification number.

For Delhi, the Wetland Authority, Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi said that there are 49 ponds which are under the jurisdiction of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Horticulture Department. All the 49 ponds had been selected for restoration and 4 ponds has already been restored. These ponds are primarily being used for horticulture and recreation purposes. Most of the ponds were being polluted by local drains. Action plans have been prepared to treat the drain sewage by installing STPs.
