Electricity transition roadmaps
Low carbon electricity transition roadmaps that help authorities evaluate future power supply options are valuable tools for developing India’s climate mitigation strategies. Electricity system modeling has become a widespread practice to understand future trajectories and developments in the power sector, which can help policymakers develop comprehensive energy policies. Various energy system models have been developed in recent years that have different capabilities, each better suited for a different purpose. As a result, many modeling studies show significant differences in their predictions and projected future scenarios. Hence, harmonizing, comparing and interpreting the results of different modeling studies within a single framework is necessary. This study aims to provide detailed insights into the future electricity-mix anticipated by various India-specific modeling studies in the last five years and intends to address various questions about India's energy policy.
