Order of the Madras High Court in the matter of Grace Banu Vs The Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu dated 20/05/2021.

The matter related to COVID-19 relief measures to persons from transgender community in Tamil Nadu. An application was filed before the Madras High Court by Grace Banu requesting extension of COVID-19 cash relief of Rs. 4000 to transgender persons in Tamil Nadu who do not possess ration cards. The petitioner also requested that the first installment of Rs. 2000 of cash relief to be paid in the month of May 2021 should also be paid to transgender persons, who do not have ration cards - either on the  basis of their transgender identity cards or any other government ID.

The Madras High Court directed the state government to consider the matter and respond by May 27, 2021.
