Adulterated food items continue selling in the Dhaka city in the absence of proper monitoring by the agencies concerned, posing serious threat to public health. A large number of food shops, sweetmeat houses, restaurants and producers of such foods are selling adulterated items under the very nose of lawmen, said Dhaka City Corporation officials concerned.

Minister of Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development, A.H.M. Fowzie says that no decision has been taken for a sudden increase in fuel prices. Speaking to the government media, the Minister has also revealed that a study is underway on the financial situation of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and the global fuel prices. He added that CPC has incurred a loss of 7.32 billion rupees following the last increase of fuel prices in January. Power shortage in the central dzongkhags of Trongsa and Bumthang should become a thing of the past once Bhutan power corporation limited (BPCL) links Kurichu power, via Tingtibi in Zhemgang, by July this year. "The erection of electric poles from Tingtibi to Yurmung and Yurmung to Trongsa and stringing works are also being carried out simultaneously,' said BPCL's executive director (development and construction division), Gem Tshering. "The supply from Tingtibi will be extended to Trongsa by the first or second week of June.'
- Consumers were hit by another fuel shortage since Sunday after as petroleum dealers halted distribution because of a dispute with the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC). NOC officials said that an agreement had been reached Monday evening, and the dealers would resume distribution Tuesday. The dealers said they stopped selling fuel as NOC had forced upon them a new set of directives related to retail prices of fuel, extent of technical leakage, and transportation cost. The petrol scarcity, which had been running for months, had faded away after a price revision last week.
Electric equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) has bagged a Rs 506-crore contract from Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for upgrade of drilling rigs. According to the contract, Bhel would upgrade 12 onshore drilling rigs and supply new rig equipment to ONGC, the company said in a release on Thursday. The work would also includes overhauling of rotating and hoisting equipment, revamping electrical systems and site erection and commissioning of these equipment.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has cleared implementation of Pare Hydro Electric Project (110 MW) in Arunachal Pradesh by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO). The Project is estimated to cost Rs.573.99 crore. Briefing newsmen, Union Minister of State, Prithviraj Chavan said that the Project is scheduled to be commissioned in 44 months.

The Maharashtra government has decided to flex its muscles regarding the running of the Dabhol power plant, formerly set up by Enron. New Delhi, June 19 The Centre has cleared the implementation of a 100 MW gas-based power project in Tripura. The project would be set up by the State-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (Neepco) at a cost of Rs 421 crore, according to a decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs here on Friday.
As India continues its struggle to find alternative energy sources to cope with the growing energy demand, it is looking aggressively at cbm (coal bed methane) gas as a source of clean, thermal energy, that is known for its easy inflammability. India currently consumes 140,000 mw of electricity per year, about 55 per cent of which is thermal-based and derived from coal.
