SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has admitted that the Atomic Mineral Division (AMD) has requested the State Government for shifting the proposed Kynshi Stage-II hydro-electric project to another site. “I have been brief by AMD officials that if the project is not shifted it will submerge areas where there are uranium deposits,” Dr Sangma told reporters on Friday.

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh has urged the centre for speedy commissioning of the 2000 mw Lower Subansiri Hydro Electric Project at Gerukamukh on Assam -Arunachal border saying agitation in Assam by some organisations over the proposed dam resulted in huge loss to national exchequer. A delegation led by MP Takam Sanjoy submitted a memorandum to Union Power Minister Veerappa Moily yesterday at New Delhi and demanded early settlement of the stalemate on the dam issue in the state, official sources informed here today.

Uttarakhand to Centre: Eco zone shattering hydro dream
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and opposed the new 4,179.59 sq km eco-sensitive zone in the Bhagirathi Valley, which put tough restrictions on tourism and hydel projects in the hill state. Bahuguna, leading a delegation comprising the party's state MPs and Congress general secretary Birendra Singh at Parliament house, told Singh there should be a review of the eco-sensitive zone where the area has been increased from 40 sq km to 4179.59 sq km, without taking the consent of the state. Bahuguna also met the minister for state for environment and forest, Jayanthi Natarajan, separately on the issue and urged the centre to set up a high-powered committee to review the eco sensitive zone.
