$28-million package for Sikkim tourism from ADB
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on its November 16 meeting has sanctioned a 89.50 million US dollar project for improving connectivity and infrastructure in the Indian subcontinent consisting areas of India, Bangladesh and Nepal to promote nature and culture-based tourism. Of the total cost of US $89.50 million, US $28 million will be spent in Sikkim, a Sikkim IPR release informed.

People participation key to eco-tourism
Jaipur: Conservation with people's participation seems to be the salient feature of the eco-tourism guidelines released by the state government on Thursday. From seeking their help in the actual implementation of the guidelines to involving them with conservation work, the guidelines have paved way for community participation in a variety of ways. As a first step, the guidelines seek the involvement of honourary wildlife wardens wildlife experts, NGOs and other independent stakeholders for assisting the Tiger Conservation Foundation and the forest department for the implementation of these guidelines in tiger reserves.

Tourism banned in three tiger reserves
Following the Supreme Court order, State wildlife authorities on Wednesday, banned tourism in the three tiger reserves of Mudumalai in Udhagamandalam, Anamalai near Pollachi, and Kalakkad – Mundanthurai in Tirunelveli district. Officials in the forest headquarters said the field directors of the three tiger reserves have been asked to instruct the district forest officers concerned to stop allowing tourists till the apex court passes further judgement. Incidentally, the core tiger habitat in Mudumalai, which includes Theppakadu elephant camp, and Anamalai, where Top Slip is, are the core tourist spots thronged by several thousands of tourists every year.
