State Minister for Environment and Forest Dr Hasan Mahmud on Thursday said about 20 million people might be displaced from coastal belts as a result of sea level rise following climate change. As a result of the continuing heavy rains several areas in the Batticaloa District, in Eastern Sri Lanka have been severely flooded. A twister that blew across the Bulathsinhala area in Kalutara last night damaged at least 103 houses. The Disaster Management Center said that 89 houses have been completely destroyed and others were partially damaged.
