The forest department has succeeded in trapping a leopard at Dhave-Sattari in the wee hours of Monday. It may be recalled that the leopard had been creating havoc in the village since the last one month. On May 19, the leopard had attacked one Uday Mandrekar, besides; several dogs and cattle were killed in the village.

A high-level committee that went into mining activities in the State, has found that there is no mining activity in or around wildlife sanctuaries in the State. The chief conservator of forest Dr Shashi Kumar today said that the committee in its reports has not found any such mining activity. The wildlife sanctuaries are mines-free, it has said.

This decision was made at a meeting convened by Old Goa Villagers Action Committee at Old Goa panchayat hall on Sunday.
Davorlim villagers on Sunday unanimously opposed acquisition of agricultural land and paddy fields to set up a Kabrastan for the Muslim community. At the gram sabha meeting held on Sunday, which was specifically called to discuss the issue, the villagers strongly opposed the proposed plan of the government to acquire the agricultural fields for the burial grounds.

The investigation into tiger killing case at Keri has hit the rock bottom in the absence of forensic report. Goa Forest Department had achieved a major breakthrough in the long pending tiger killing case on June 1, by spotting where the tiger carcass were burnt and all the evidence were sent to Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun for confirmation.
