India is rapidly developing wind energy resources to satisfy its growing needs for electricity. However, the suitability of a particular location for the development of a wind energy project depends on a large number of factors. Site characteristics such as meteorological conditions, accessibility during construction and the distance to the transmission network during operation determine whether it is suitable for development or not. Project siting is, therefore, the single most important factor in determining a wind energy project's economic viability.
