The Government of Andhra Pradesh established the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), in the year 2000, to bring light into the lives of the rural poor. It implements two poverty reduction projects with an amount of Rs. 2000 crores. SERP's current programmes reach year by 80 lakh households of Andhra Pradesh. It is the single largest rural development programme run by government. Their food security programme reaches 27 lakh households. Mr. T. Vijay Kumar (CEO, SERP) has been associated with SERP's initiatives since it's foundation. In this interview with Mr. G. V. Krishnagopal, Editor, Transforming India, Mr. T. Vijay Kumar (CEO, SERP) has shared his views on the ongoing SERP project, the challenges faced by the poor and the organization, the socio-economic scenario and the achievements of SERP till date.
