BMC plans greenhouse emission study, marks eleven sectors

In a bid to check the city's contribution to global warming, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has listed eleven sectors where it will undertake a study of greenhouse emissions. In fact, the BMC will be the first municipal corporation in the country to take up this massive exercise. The agency that will be appointed for the purpose, following a global tendering process, will be in charge of monitoring greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and fluorocarbons that are emitted every day through cars, garbage dumps or even air conditioners. The eleven sectors where the level of emissions will be studied are transportation, construction, industries, service sector, agriculture, energy, hospital, commercial, household, waste and the municipal sector.
