Following the Prime minister's August 15 announcement, the Union cabinet approved a Rs 10000 crore programme to provide employment opportunities and food security in rural areas. Essentially a food-for work programme, the 'Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojna'(SGRY), might help the government overcome the impact of images of starvation amidst plenty.
